For the first time in history, individuals in the United States can now use the funds in their Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Savings Account (FSA) to pay for period products.

Previously, period products were not considered ‘medical expenses’ but the CARES Act changed that. This now includes tampons, pads and menstrual cups. Although the CARES Act isn’t permanent, but rather meant to help during a time of crisis, it does open the door to have the conversation about period products being classified as medical expenses in the future.
